We are fast approaching the highlight of the Irish volunteering calendar – National Volunteering Week (14th – 19th May 2018), is the one week of the year when we encourage everyone in Ireland to give volunteering a try. When it comes to volunteering, everyone has something to give and so much to gain from getting involved. This year’s National Volunteering Week will focus on health and well-being by showcasing the positive impact volunteering can have on those that volunteer.
NVW is an opportunity to shine a light on the inspiring work of volunteers and highlight the value and impact of volunteering to your organisation, as well as Irish society. If you are looking to recruit new volunteers, there’s no better time than National Volunteering Week. Here are some ideas on how you can make the most of NVW 2018.
Highlight the Value of Your Volunteers
Your Volunteers’ Stories
Other people’s stories inspire new volunteers to take the plunge and get involved. It’s a great way of showcasing the work that volunteers do, as well as the many benefits they gain from being involved with your organisation. Have you got some stories to share? Let us know, we would love to spread the word.
Appreciating Your Volunteers
Could your organisation survive without volunteers? Publicise how your volunteers help, by posting a message on social media (#NVW2018) or on your website. Why not make a video from your team, thanking volunteers?
Organise an Event
A great way to shine a light on your organisation, celebrate volunteering and also attract more supporters in the process. Here are some ideas:
1. Guided tour of your offices or centre
2. Information evening / Open day
3. Short presentation about your work
4. Coffee morning for prospective and current volunteers
5. Photographic exhibition of volunteering activities
6. Special volunteering project involving new volunteers
Whatever you’re planning for NVW2018, let us know – we’ll promote your event and help raise awareness of your organisation.
Publicise Your Volunteering Opportunities
National Volunteering Week is all about making it easier for the public to volunteer. If you have ongoing volunteer roles available – make the most of National Volunteering Week by publicising how people can get involved, and make sure all your roles are registered on I-VOL.
Make volunteering more visible, feature on your homepage and add the NVW logo for the week. Post stories and images on social media using the hashtag #NVW2018. Mention us on Twitter (@DublinVolunteer) and on Facebook (Dublin City Volunteer Centre), and we’ll share your post.
