Taking Care of Your Wellbeing
Due to Covid-19 National Volunteering Week is taking place a little later this year; 21st – 27th September.
We will focus on thanking volunteers and organisations for everything they have done this year and encourage everyone to focus on their own health and well-being. It’s been a tough year for everyone so it’s important to make sure we’re all looking after ourselves too!
Highlight the Value of Your Volunteers
NVW is an opportunity to shine a light on the inspiring work of volunteers and highlight the value and impact of volunteering to your organisation, as well as Irish society. If you are looking to recruit new volunteers, there’s no better time than National Volunteering Week. Here are some ideas on how you can make the most of NVW 2020.
Appreciating Your Volunteers
We’re asking organisations to get involved by recording their own videos, to say thanks to volunteers, and share it on social media. How have your volunteers helped to build a better community? Could your organisation survive without them?
Give volunteers a Certificate of Appreciation.
Don’t forget, you can nominate your volunteers for a National Volunteer Ireland Award.
Your Volunteers’ Stories
Other people’s stories inspire new volunteers to take the plunge and get involved. It’s a great way of showcasing the work that volunteers do, as well as the many benefits they gain from being involved with your organisation. Maybe you could plan some social media posts sharing their stories? Let us know, we would love to spread the word.

The Face of Volunteering Photo Exhibition
Organise an Event during NVW 2020
Why not think about your own plans for National Volunteering Week? Could you run a virtual thank you event for volunteers? It’s a great way to shine a light on your organisation, celebrate volunteering and also attract more supporters in the process. Here are some ideas:
- Coffee morning for prospective and current volunteers
- Information evening / Open day
- Short presentation about your work
- Virtual photographic exhibition of volunteering activities
Whatever you’re planning for NVW2020, let us know – we’ll promote your event and help raise awareness of your organisation.
Online Visibility
Make volunteering more visible, feature on your homepage and add the NVW logo for the week. Post stories and images on social media using the hashtags; #CheersVolunteers and #NVW2020.
Mention us on social media and we’ll share your post:
- Twitter (@DublinVolunteer)
- LinkedIn (Dublin City Volunteer Centre)
- Facebook (Dublin City Volunteer Centre)
- Instagram (Dublin City Volunteer Centre)
Publicise Your Volunteering Opportunities
National Volunteering Week is all about making it easier for the public to volunteer. If you have ongoing volunteer roles available – make the most of NVW 2020 by publicising how people can get involved, and make sure all your roles are registered on I-VOL.
