Thinking about joining Community Volunteers?
Community Volunteers is our new programme for people who want to volunteer in one-off roles like events, or short-notice urgent needs. Community Volunteers go through a screening and training process and then can sign up directly for volunteering shifts on the roles that appeal to them.

How to become a Community Volunteer in 3 easy steps:
1. Register your interest
To start your Community Volunteers journey, apply here. You’ll receive a link to a short form with a few questions about yourself and your interests.
2. Complete a short informational module
Once you’ve filled in the form you’ll have the opportunity to complete a short self-paced training introducing you to Community Volunteers. You’ll watch a few videos and answer a couple of quiz questions – and you can do this whenever is convenient for you.
3. Meet the Volunteer Centre staff
Next, you’ll schedule a Zoom meeting with a member of staff at the Dublin City Volunteer Centre. We’ll check your photo ID and answer any questions you have about the programme and Volunteer Policy. Don’t be too stressed! This is a chance for us to meet you and for you to tell us what you can bring to the programme.
Welcome to the Community Volunteers!
Once you’ve successfully completed the interview you’re considered a provisional member of the Community Volunteers – welcome! You can start signing up for volunteer opportunities and meeting your fellow volunteers straight away.
You will also receive a link to register for a 2-hour online training with everything you’ll need to know as a Community Volunteer, from how to interact with the public to how to look after your own wellbeing. The training includes many opportunities to learn from your fellow volunteers and share your own experiences. You’ll come away feeling confident and ready to get involved in your community in a new way!
You can find the link to sign up for the final training on your Community Volunteers page, which is also where you’ll find upcoming roles you can sign up to. You’ll need to complete the training within a month from your interview in order to continue in the group but you can volunteer as much as you like in the meantime. Once you’ve completed the training you’re a full member of Community Volunteers.

Has this process changed?
The process to join Community Volunteers was updated in April 2022 to allow new members to start signing up for volunteer opportunities immediately after the interview. This way you can complete the final training in your own time, but also start participating in volunteer activities without any delay.
